Materials required:

  • Drawing paper
  • Sharp Pencil
  • Eraser

Step 1: Start at the centre

We will first start at the centre of the lotus. The flower is symmetrical in shape. Therefore, we will first start with the middle and draw the other petals. The centre petal is drop shaped. Draw a drop shape in the middle of the paper. Now we will draw the other petals. Let us start on the left-hand side first. For the petal, we will draw a half tear shape of a smaller size than the first one. Now, draw another petal towards the left.

Step 2: Draw the other petals

Now we will draw the other petals towards the right. Each subsequent petal is of a smaller size. As we have already mentioned, the lotus is symmetrical. Therefore, the petals on either side should be the same side. We now have two petals on each side.

Step 4: Draw leaves

Now at the base, we will draw a leaf on either side. Draw a medium-sized single leaf on any side first. Inside the leaf, draw a line. Now do the same on the other side. Try to draw the leaves of the same or similar size and shape as we are trying to draw a symmetrical flower.

Step 5: Draw a bud

Towards the right of the lotus, we will draw a flower bud. For this, draw a small drop shape. Below this, draw a sharp 'W'. Join the start the end of this with a curved 'V' shape. Under this, draw two lines downwards. This is the step of the bud. Draw a stem under the lotus flower as well. Now we will draw the lotus leaf below the flower and the bud. For this leaf, draw an oval. Similarly, under the bud, draw two ovals. Towards the right end of the paper, draw another leaf. Inside these lotus leaves, draw lines. Starting from the centre, draw lines towards the outside in a circle form.

Step 6: Fill in

We will now fill in the lotus by shading in. First use a dark pencil and shade one side of the petals, leaves and the bud. Now using a light pencil, shade the flower and the bud. Another thing to note is that lotus grows in dirty water or ponds. So we will draw the water body now. On the middle of the paper, draw a straight line across. Do not draw the line over the flower or the bud. Now that your paper is divided into two, lightly shade the lower part all over. This is the water body.
